Dave Hodgkins and Herasanna Richards from MML’s State & Federal Affairs department will provide an update on current state and federal legislation. This will include topics such as: Proposal 2 implementation, the proposed “Revenue Sharing Trust Fund,” environmental and energy issues, short-term rentals, the State budget and more.

How to Inspire Participation for Sustainable Community Engagement

Many communities have shared their struggle with filling seats on local boards, commissions, and even city/village council. In this session, Mayor Maureen Donker of Midland will discuss her experience participating in the Midland Citizens Academy and her decision to run for local office. Community engagement and organizational development expert Nancy Ohle will then offer tools to help attendees seek, inspire, and sustain engagement from citizens and local officials.

Working Together for the Good of Your Community

Do you admire the culture in your city hall? What values and beliefs are demonstrated by your team on a regular basis? Are civility, respect, and collaboration the norm? Working together can be difficult when there are opposing opinions on what needs to be done, so it is essential for city and village councils to align toward the best interests of their community. Invest time and energy with colleagues and Marilynn Semonick to discuss key attributes of effective local leaders, explore strategies to create and sustain a high-functioning leadership team, and leave with insight on how to achieve meaningful results.
